A “Raise Our Roof!” Awareness Initiative

Raise the Roof with Song!

The scaffolding has finally come down, marking the completion of many years of study, analysis, debate, and prayerful contemplation, and many months of construction, unveiling our new roof and building exterior repairs. Now the fun begins: paying for the million dollar roof!

At noon on the first Sunday of every month, Kingston Road United Church is pleased to host the Raise the Roof with Song! singalong. Featuring all the greatest and most-moving hymns from the choral repertoire, the choir is interspersed amongst the congregation to belt out (in four-part harmony where appropriate) stirring renditions of our favourites.

Come join us every month and accompany Eric MacKeracher (MD), the KRU Senior Choir and the magnificent Casavant Frères pipe organ (see below) to make the earth move with works like Onward Christian Soldiers, Holst Jupiter, Greensleeves, tune4, tune5, tune6, tune7. Requests are taken!! Coffee and snacks are provided. All denominations are most welcome. 100% of donations go toward supporting our new roof. Please give generously!

Kingston Road United Church (KRUC) has been home to a diverse population of musical talent for most of its 117 year history.

Eric MacKeracher has been the Music Director at Kingston Road United Church (located in the Beaches area of Toronto) since September 2000. Eric is an active member in the Greater Toronto community providing private lessons and master classes to many. He sings tenor in both the Elmer Iseler Singers and the Amadeus Choir. Eric graduated from the Faculty of Music at the University of Toronto and continues his studies in both piano and voice.

The KRUC Senior Choir is a non-auditioned assembly of enthusiastic music lovers (including some semi-professional talent) focused on good art and community support. We can boast a regular turnout of fifteen members at Thursday rehearsals and Sunday services. The music chosen by Eric MacKeracher (MD) is exceptional and the KRUC archived-music library is truly spectacular. Come join us!

The KRUC pipe organ, built by Casavant Frères, was installed in 1950. Its full complement of 2 foot to 16 foot pipes, when unleashed, bathe the hall in earth-shaking glory. The Church hosts several community choirs, including Toronto Beach Chorale, AbZolutely Choir, and Toronto Beaches Childrens’ Chorus, as well as its own in-house Senior and Youth Choirs. The ensembles have access to not only several piano-equipped rehearsal spaces, but also the acoustically-spectacular, Steinway-equipped Sanctuary for concerts and performances. KRUC has presented the enormously-successful Kingston Road Village Concert Series (three or four performances annually under the direction of Tim Dawson) for over ten years and they continue to bring beautiful music to the Toronto music scene.

Kingston Road Village Concert Series

The Kingston Road Village Concert Series is the brainchild of Tim Dawson, a bassist with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and member of Kingston Road United Church. Tim joined the Toronto Symphony Orchestra in 1980. At age 21, upon graduating from the University of Toronto, he became the youngest member of the TSO at that time. Four concerts a year are presented at Kingston Road United Church, a central location in the Kingston Road Village. The KRUC sanctuary is an amazing acoustic space. All concerts feature exciting professional musicians performing music that ranges from traditional classical to the avant garde.
